Whistler’s Answers: August 14, 1986

In the 1980s the Whistler Question began posing a question to three to six people and publishing their responses under “Whistler’s Answers” (not to be confused with the Whistler Answer).  Each week, we’ll be sharing one question and the answers given back in 1986.  Please note, all names/answers/occupations/neighbourhoods represent information given to the Question at the time of publishing and do not necessarily reflect the person today.

Some context for this week’s question: In 1986, with the Conference Centre open and the majority of the parcels in the Whistler Village developed, planning turned to the Village North area.

Question: What developments would you like to see in Village North?

An outdoor skating rink would be a good thing to have. There should be something zoned for a gas station, especially with the Pemberton airport recently going in and with the improvement of roads up to D’Arcy. We do the snowmobile tours and have had to run all the way down to the Gondola for gas.

Robert Meilleur – Whistler Snowmobile Services – Whistler

I would definitely say we need a recreation centre including a sports facilities with swimming or skating.

Susan Birss – Whistler Resort Hostess – Whistler

A public swimming pool. It would be good for therapeutic uses. It would be better exercise than skating. We need something like a Workwear World or a main outlet for BC Tel.
