With the Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme returning this April we’re taking a look back at the original run of the legendary race. This new exhibit opens Tuesday, March 20 with special guests Dave Clement (part of creating the first race), Chris Kent (winner of the first four races) and more. The exhibit will run through the end of April.
I lived and worked in Whistler from 1988 to 2001 during the time of the Original Race. I was and am still good friends with Marc Gagnon who won two races back to back. He has lived in Japan since teach extreme skiing to this day. As I recall his decent time is still among the fastest.
One wonders if the new race will have a ‘classic ski’ category, so we can dust off the ol’ 210 GS skinnies, and have at ‘er?!
