LEGO 2013 Recap!LEGO 2013 Recap!

Last Saturday we completed another fantastic LEGO-building competition, our 17th to be precise! As always, it was tons of loud, chaotic fun. Put 50 kids (plus parents) together with boxes and boxes of LEGO, and they get pretty excited, apparently. Weird, huh?

And they're off!
And they’re off!

This year’s theme was “What if YOU were a Whistler bear?” and all of the participants were encouraged to build their designs from a bear’s perspective, whatever that means. The designs were awesome; creative, thoughtful, and often hilarious too! Of course, this was  a competition, with professional (kinda) judges and tons of prizes. As difficult as it was, some winners had to be decided. Here they are:

Age 5 & under
 1) Lucy Trowbridge
2) Shay Smith

3) Patrick Reid

Age 6-7
 1) Kiera Ho
2) Milan Emond
3) Emmett Zicherman

Age 8-9
 1) Jordan Gage
2) Spenser Mandy
3) Jude Arnold

Age 10-12
 1) Lucy Kloepfer
2) Owen Kloepfer
3) Alex Gabbert

A big THANK YOU goes out to all of the participants, and the parents who came out and supported their kids. This event would not be possible without you!

We would also like to thank the many sponsors who donated prizes. The level of support we get from the community for this event is truly great, so a huge thanks to: Armchair Books, Blenz Coffee, Bricks 4 Kidz, Caramba! Restaurante, COWS, Creekbread, Earls, Fathom Stone Art Gallery & Studio, Fun for Kids Clothing & Accessories, Lush, Marketplace IGA, Meadow Park Sports Centre, Metropolitan Theatres, Prior Skis & Snowboards, The Adventure Group, The Old Spaghetti Factory, and Whoola Toys.

And of course we would like to thank our Judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and judge all the wonderful LEGO creations. Isobel MacLaurin, long time Whistler resident, artist and supporter of the museum, and Quinn Bender, newly appointed editor for the Whistler Question (as well as Museum Programs Manager Jeff Slack). Last but certainly not least, thanks to Alison Hunter for once again supplying the Duplo for the 5 and under category, and Wayne Flann for contributing even more LEGO to the Museum’s already prodigious supply!

Hope to see you next year at #18!

It’s back. For the 17th straight summer the Whistler Museum will be opening its doors for a day of pandemonium (the good kind) as we welcome 50 kids to take part in our annual LEGO-building competition. It’s all going down on Saturday August 10th, from 2-4pm.

August is Bear Month at the Whistler Museum, so our LEGO theme is “What if YOU were a Whistler Bear?” Essentially, this means you can build something, anything, but it should be from a bear’s perspective. You can build the ultimate bear den, you can show you and your bear friends having a picnic, a car designed specifically for bears, whatever you want!

It’s only $5 per child, and is open for all children from ages 3-12. This year we’ve got tons of great prizes from Armchair Books, Whoola Toys, Cows, Earls, Marketplace IGA, Lush, Fun for Kids Clothing and Accessories, Caramba, TAG – The Adventure Group, Meadow Park Sports Centre, Village 8 Cinema, Prior, Creekbread, Fathom Stone Studios, Boston Pizza, Whistler Grocery Store, The Old Spaghetti Factory, and Blenz.

This event sells out in advance every year, so to avoid disappointment, stop by the museum or give us a call at 604.932.2019. Because of the event’s popularity, we cannot reserve spots without payment.
