In the 1980s the Whistler Question began posing a question to three to six people and publishing their responses under “Whistler’s Answers” (not to be confused with the Whistler Answer).  Each week, we’ll be sharing one question and the answers given back in 1983.  Please note, all names/answers/occupations/neighbourhoods represent information given to the Question at the time of publishing and do not necessarily reflect the person today.

Some context for this week’s question: This question, which is still asked today, doesn’t need much explanation, except a reminder that in 1983 Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains were separate entities and so sold separate passes, though for a higher price one could purchase a dual mountain pass.

Question: What mountain will you be skiing this winter and why?

Michael Ballingall – Promotions Manager – Kelowna

When I’m here, I’ll be skiing whatever mountain is more accessible – wherever I’m closest. I like lots of snow and I like to go fast. I don’t like bumps. I’ll probably ski Whistler because of its popularity.

Grant Keys – Waiter – Brio

I’d ski both. I would get a dual mountain pass because the World Cup is on Whistler and Blackcomb has great skiing. It’s not worth saving a hundred bucks to not be able to ski both. I can get into cruising on Blackcomb one day and the bumps on Whistler the next.

Dan Ladd – Restaurant Employee – North Vancouver

I’m not really the best skier. Where I ski would depend on who I came with. I’ll ski either mountain, but I don’t know enough about terrain to choose a type. I’m not a season’s pass buyer.
